Summary: The U.S. Space Force is expanding the GPS IIIF fleet with the procurement of two additional satellites, Space Vehicles 23 and 24, to deliver enhanced capabilities that meet the demands of military and civilian users worldwide.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Space Systems Command is advancing the global positioning, navigation and timing architecture with the procurement of two additional GPS IIIF satellites to deliver enhanced capabilities that meet the demands of military and civilian users worldwide.

The Acting Space Force Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Satellite Communications and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing awarded a fifth GPS IIIF contract option valued at $514.4 million to Lockheed Martin for the procurement of Space Vehicles 23 and 24.

This procurement increases the total number of GPS IIIF satellites on contract to 14, building upon the 10 GPS III satellites currently in operation. Once in orbit, the two additional satellites will be part of the Space Force’s GPS IIIF satellites equipped with advanced anti-jamming capabilities, increased accuracy and a more robust signal to operate effectively in contested environments.

“We are ensuring our warfighters and partners maintain a distinct tactical advantage, while continuing to provide the gold-standard service that billions of civilian users rely on every single day,” said Erin Carper, acting Space Force portfolio acquisition executive for Satellite Communications and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing.

As space becomes an increasingly contested domain, the Space Force is committed to meeting the evolving requirements of military, allied and civil GPS users. The continued investment in GPS IIIF provides the capabilities required to outpace emerging threats, meet increased operational demands and secure global civilian infrastructure.
