Space Systems Integration Office

The Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO) ensures the operational resilience and lethality of the joint force through delivery of space systems integration products. SSIO’s robust and repeatable mission integration makes this possible with the development and enforcement of Space Enterprise technical governance for integration compliance and end-to-end effectiveness. SSIO is empowered by the authority of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition and Integration (ASAF Space (A&I)), the Service Acquisition Executive (SAE), and by the dual-hatted Senior Advisor for Space Command, Control, and Integration (SASC2I) and Senior Advisor to the SAE, who bridges SSIO production to the SAE’s integration priorities as well as space warfighter priorities.

The SSIO integration factory executes system-of-systems engineering, produces integration artifacts, and drives end-to-end capability for all programs in the ASAF Space (A&I) portfolio. Specific products include mission thread and kill chain analysis, cross-program interface definition, configuration control boards, technical specs/standards and governance, and coordination across Program Executive Officer (PEO) and mission partner portfolios. SSIO delivers these products in a Phased Increments Framework to achieve integrated capabilities for Combat Forces Command and USSPACECOM priorities. As the Space Enterprise technical integration champion, SSIO promotes Exploit-Buy-Build solutions and resourcing recommendations to ASAF Space (A&I) and the space PEOs.

Why We Need to Integrate Military Space Systems

Our Nation’s security depends on continued U.S. space superiority. Adversaries and strategic competitors are increasingly determined to disrupt this advantage with a growing arsenal of threats which require integrated architectures capable of defeating threats and sustaining superiority. SSIO delivers the enterprise system of systems engineering foundation and mission thread analysis to drive integration of space capabilities across the USSF and mission partner enterprise. Seamless integration is essential for rapid detection and response to threats, at operationally relevant speeds and scale, to promote a peaceful space domain, deter hostile action, and ensure lethality and victory in conflicts.
