Small Business Office

The SSC Small Business Office exists for small business owners who are interested in learning more about contracting opportunities with Space Systems Command, a U.S. Space Force Field Command based in El Segundo, California. Pursuing DoD contracts requires patience, persistence, and an in-depth understanding of federal acquisition rules. We are here to help.

The SSC Small Business Office is located at Los Angeles Air Force Base with additional office locations at Vandenberg Space Force Base in support of the 30th Contracting Squadron and at Patrick Space Force Base in support of the 45th Contracting Squadron. We are available for introductory meetings to discuss how your products and services might match the requirements of the organizations operating from these three bases. We can also provide additional information on upcoming and active contract requirements. But first, you need to get started. (See Getting Started tab above)

A key first step is registering your business on SAM.gov. Several resources are available to help you. The first is the Apex Accelerator, funded by the DoD, to provide one-on-one assistance with SAM registration, explain how to search for opportunities, and provide guidance on how to respond. The second resource is your local Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which is funded by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to provide counseling free of charge for new vendors. In either case, you will also need a Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (previously WAWF) account before you can register.

When you are ready to register for SAM.gov, you will need to know Federal Supply Classification Code and/or the North American Industry Classification Systems (NAICS) Code that best fits your product or service. At this stage, you will also want to explore the various socio-economic certifications that SBA has to offer. One or more of these may help you secure a government contract.

Additional Resources

SSC FRONT DOOR is an excellent online resource for tech start-ups seeking to learn more about the mission needs of Space Systems Command, where their products, technologies, and/or services may fit and upcoming events for industry. If there is a match between your company’s capabilities and SSC’s needs, Front Door can help you connect with the appropriate organization.

SPACEWERX is a government funded organization that facilitates collaboration with small technology companies through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. SBIR and STTR provide over a billion dollars in seed capital each year for early-stage research and development (R&D) at small technology companies. They fund projects that serve a DoD need and also have commercial applications.

Space Enterprise Consortium (SpEC) was created to bridge the cultural gap between military buyers and commercial space startups and small businesses through Other Transactional Authority Awards (OTAs). This innovative contracting process allows SpEC to solicit bids from a mix of member companies including companies that have not previously done work with the DoD.
